These are a few of my favorite things. My travels require gear that can stand up to the elements and rough luggage handlers then come home and be cleaned up without missing a beat.

Patagonia Black Hole Duffel – 70 Liter
For trips requiring a soft sided bag, this is my go-to. It’s roomy, has organizing pockets on the lid and can be carried either on your shoulder or knapsack style. It is also pretty sturdy – mine has survived being tossed around nicely. It’s also pretty cool that it comes in a range of colors – easy to spot on the luggage carousels.
Made from lightweight, durable, 100% recycled polyester ripstop that is weather-resistant keeping your stuff dry (even if they end up sitting on a wet tarmac prior to hitting the baggage claim area).

Dakine Split Roller – 110L
The perfect compact wheeled bag for when you have to pack for several climates. The waxed fabric is weather resistant keeping your belongings dry in the wettest environments. With a large main compartment on one side and two individually divided sections on the opposite side you can easily keep clean items separate from dirty ones. All sections feature see-through mesh dividers which allow you to view exactly what’s in each section. Two external pockets provide additional storage and nylon straps keep the bag secure, even if you overpacked. The molded bottom protects your more fragile items.

Backcountry All Around Duffel – 40 Liter
My main carry-on. Rugged yet totally functional made of weather resistant coated polyester. There is an end-cap dry bag that can be used to keep wet or dirty clothes separate or store your shoes. Detachable shoulder straps allow the bag to easily go from duffel to backpack. Mesh pockets on the inside lid hold your passport and other valuables yet keep them easily accessible. The padded base offers an additional layer of protection for any tech items you have tucked away.
