Banff, Canada is the stuff that screensavers are made of. I had been infatuated for years with the images I had seen of Banff plastered across tourism posters or on travel shows and I was determined to see it for myself. I visited Banff in July of 2022 and the beauty of that region defies description, the blue-green colors of Lakes Moraine and Louise are the result of glacial rock flour which is carried in the run off from the glaciers in the area that trickle down to the lakes. The sun reflects off these particles refracting blue and green wavelengths of light. So, for the naysayers thinking there’s no way these pictures are real and the lake can’t be that color…think again. They really are that surreal color blue and the appearance changes depending on the intensity of the sunlight striking the lakes.
